Neck Lift/Liposuction

The presence of a well-defined neck contour is an important component of a youthful appearance for both men and women.  Due to the effects of gravity, aging, smoking and unprotected sun exposure, the elasticity of neck skin can be gradually lost, resulting in the development of unsightly lax drapes of skin with deep wrinkles.  In addition, the flat sheet-like muscle of the neck, known as the platysmal muscle, may progressively lose tone and begin to bulge or separate prominently in the midline.  Excess fatty tissue may also be present, contributing to an undesirable, ill-defined neck contour irrespective of age.  The determination of optimal treatment is based on careful examination with evaluation of the amount and quality of neck skin, status of the underlying platysma muscle and the amount and location of excess fat.  Depending on this assessment, the optimal recommended treatment may be neck lift, liposuction, neck lipectomy, platysmal tightening or a combination of these techniques.  Specifically, if skin and muscle tone are adequate, liposuction alone may suffice to remove excess fatty tissue.  Alternatively, a neck lift is required to remove excess, loose neck skin while platysmal tightening is necessary to reinforce lax neck muscle.  These procedures are performed on an outpatient basis in a State Licensed, Nationally Accredited Ambulatory Surgical Facility (see ‘Keystone Surgery Center’) under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation.  Post-operative recovery is dependent on the type and extent of surgery performed.  By carefully assessing each patient, an ideal treatment plan can be developed in order to restore a more youthful neck contour and improve patient self-confidence.

When considering a neck lift/ liposuction of the neck, or indeed any cosmetic procedure, be sure to select a qualified, experienced plastic surgeon, certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). As a board certified plastic surgeon with over 15 years of clinical practice experience and member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (The Mark of Distinction in Cosmetic Plastic Surgery® ASAPS), Dr. Robert Kimmel welcomes the opportunity to help you achieve your goals for cosmetic enhancement and enjoy a happier, more confident lifestyle.
