Liposuction is one of the leading cosmetic procedures performed by plastic surgeons. This minimally-invasive body contouring technique has been performed millions of times over the years and has sculpted arms, abdomens, hips, thighs, and more. Over time, we’ve seen several new developments in the area of liposuction, such as the use of innovative technologies to aid in fat reduction. What we do not yet have is a way to prevent loose skin from occurring after liposuction using any particular technique. Here, we discuss why loose skin may be noticed after liposuction and what can be done about it.
Loose skin may look more prominent after liposuction. Does that mean that liposuction is the cause? No. At least not directly. The reason why skin may look looser after liposuction is because, when fat is removed, there is less volume beneath the skin to make it look plump and relatively smooth. Laxity develops when the skin ages or is significantly stretched. Aging affects the skin everywhere on the body. This happens because certain cells stop producing chemicals like collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin, which are vital to firm, smooth, elastic skin. Laxity means that the skin cannot bounce back after being stretched. It means that, when the volume of fat is decreased through liposuction, the skin has nothing to push it outward.
It is possible to undergo body contouring treatment that meets all of your needs. An experienced plastic surgeon may have numerous tools to help you achieve the results you want after liposuction. First, it is necessary to observe the skin during the initial consultation for liposuction. Knowing that the skin may look loose and puckered if it is too loose, a plastic surgeon will recommend additional techniques to address this issue. Laxity is not a “wait and see” issue for many people. We know when it may occur and we know what to do about it.
In our practice, solutions to loose skin after liposuction include surgical lift techniques and nonsurgical skin tightening. Which option is best depends on the extent of laxity identified during the consultation. If you have mildly loose skin, treatment like Triniti RF microneedling may be sufficient to promote natural tightening over time. If your tissue laxity is more severe, a surgical lift such as a tummy tuck, thigh lift, or arm lift may be better suited to your needs. There is also the matter of how long results will last to consider.

A new year brings many of us to a place of contemplation. While some ponder who they are and what they want to do with the coming months to become a better version of themselves, it seems that the majority of people who make resolutions want something simpler: a better body. Seeing that the mind and the body have a close and lifelong relationship, we see the immense value that can come from feeling good about appearance. Here, we discuss why it pays to consult with a plastic surgeon about goals pertaining to shape and why a consultation with us can be the perfect complement to your gym membership.
If you’ve spent any amount of time trying to achieve the body you envision having, you know it can be quite the challenge. There are several factors involved in how we gain and hold weight. Both men and women may have a more difficult time managing weight as they age. This is due to natural changes in hormones that affect fat metabolism. Stress also causes us to hold weight, even when we’re working out and eating well. Finally, there are areas of the body on which we simply accumulate fat cells that are resistant to metabolism. This is why surgery may be the best solution.
At Keystone Cosmetic Surgery Center, patients have multiple options to achieve the contours they want. Liposuction continues to be a popular method of fast and permanent fat elimination, but the technique that is used can be customized based on preference.
Fat-reduction and body contouring are matters best handled by a board-certified plastic surgeon. To reduce your gym time and maximize your results, call our Hazleton or Pottsville office for information on our services.
Many of the online searches that are conducted today revolve around getting a slimmer physique. If we’re not looking up the latest diet trends or workout videos, we are researching which non-surgical body contouring treatments are getting the best results. At the moment, non-surgical fat reduction is incredibly popular. We can understand the draw to treatments like CoolSculpting. At the same time, it is necessary to thoroughly consider the value of surgical technique – aka liposuction – versus fat reducing methods that are conducted in the office setting.
In recent years, several technologies have been developed for cosmetic use. As a result, we have multiple ways to eliminate unwanted fat. Patients of our Hazelton and Pottsville offices may choose the non-surgical route of Liposonix, which targets fat cells with high-intensity focused ultrasound. Another popular method of fat reduction is to freeze fat cells. You may know this method as CoolSculpting. We’re going to discuss the latter due to its overwhelming popularity.
CoolSculpting freezes fat in a localized area such as the lower abdomen or inner thighs. Fat-freezing is achieved by securing a region of tissue in between two panels. Tissue must stay between the panels for about an hour to reach the necessary effect. According to the device manufacturer, each treatment can reduce fatty tissue by up to 23 percent. This sounds advantageous. However, we must also look at the size of the treatment area. Also according to the manufacturer, it is approximately the size of a stick of butter. Not very substantial after all.
Because liposuction is referred to as a surgical procedure, there may be a connotation that the process is involved and very risky. In fact, many of the liposuction treatments that are performed today are conducted either in an office setting or an accredited outpatient surgical facility. While some liposuction procedures are performed under general anesthesia, many are completed with a local anesthetic and appropriate sedative. Patients are released to recover at home within a short time after their procedure.
Dr. Kimmel frequently chooses Tickle Lipo as the preferred method of body sculpting. This technique is versatile enough to treat just about any area of the body. Using surgical liposuction, he can also address multiple areas in a single surgery without increasing downtime. But the most significant aspect of surgical liposuction versus any non-surgical treatment is the degree of fat removal that is possible – up to 2.5 liters of fatty tissue in a single surgery.
Do you want noticeable body sculpting? Call our Hazelton or Pottsville office to learn more about Tickle Lipo.
Patients who visit the offices of plastic surgeons around the world tend to have complaints that revolve around one of two glaring problems: facial aging and fat. Of course, there are other beneficial procedures commonly performed in our accredited facilities, such as breast augmentation and tummy tucks. For today, though, we want to focus on the various reasons why liposuction has maintained a solid position in the Top 5 most popular cosmetic surgery procedures year after year.
Liposuction has been recognized as an efficient fat-reducing surgery for many years. The advent of non-surgical body contouring treatments such as Liposonix (based on high-intensity ultrasound) has been good but hasn’t knocked surgical liposuction off its pedestal. Every patient to chooses liposuction for fat-reduction has personal reasons. We want to list a few of them here.
Ultimately, the long-term results that come from liposuction can facilitate lasting confidence and satisfaction with your body. Learn more about this procedure by calling our Pottsville or Hazleton office.
One of the concerns that have historically been difficult to address has been excessive fatty tissue in the submental region. This is also known as the double-chin. What is interesting about this particular cosmetic problem is that there have been solutions available for many years. It has only been recently, with the development of Kybella, that we have begun to talk more about the pressing issue of submental fullness and how a double-chin can affect a person’s sense of well-being. Of course, we now know that a few treatment sessions of injections with Kybella can wipe out a double-chin. But there are also advantages to surgery for double-chin correction. We want to talk about them here.
When we mention surgery for a double-chin, it is the neck lift that may first come to mind. In reality, liposuction may be what is recommended. Liposuction is the procedure of manual fat extraction using tumescent fluid and gentle suction through a tiny cannula, or tube. Submental liposuction is often performed in an outpatient surgery center using local anesthesia. General anesthesia may be used if adjunct procedures, such as neck or facelift surgery, will also be performed.
Submental liposuction involves the introduction of tumescent fluid into the fatty tissue under the chin. This fluid is delivered through a discreet incision at the natural crease of the chin. Tumescent fluid not only helps to break up fat cells, but it also contains numbing medication to facilitate comfort, as well as ingredients to minimize bleeding and post-surgery bruising. Through the same small incision, fat cells are extracted. Following incision closure, a compression garment may be applied to support tissue healing and minimize swelling.
Liposuction isn’t always enough to achieve the best possible outcome for the person with a double-chin. In some instances, we also need to look at how to address loose and sagging skin. Removing fat can make this problem appear worse, so we may suggest tissue tightening with the neck lift technique. This procedure usually involves general anesthesia. Incisions are made behind the ears and at the crease of the chin, where they can be hidden. Through these incisions, a tissue is repositioned and excised as needed to achieve a younger-looking neck and chin.
A double-chin isn’t something you have to live with. We offer both surgical and non-surgical treatment options to patients of our offices near Philadelphia, Reading, and Allentown, and surrounding area. Contact an office near you for more information.
Liposuction is not a new procedure. It’s been performed for decades with enormous success and is continually a leader in the pack of cosmetic procedures. Because we hear about liposuction so often, it’s easy to think we know the important details. From our standpoint, what many people believe about liposuction is off the mark.
Where it is easy to go wrong is in perceiving liposuction as a fat-reducing procedure. It is, in fact, a surgical technique that removes fat cells that are sticking around where they are not wanted. So, by very nature, liposuction is a fat-reducing procedure, right? And because of this, more people than you may imagine associate liposuction with weight reduction. This could lead to disappointment or, worse, to bypassing a body-sculpting procedure that could give you a body you love.
To know if liposuction is right for you, you need to know what this procedure is really for:
Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that we perform often and with success. To learn more about treatment options for better contours, call our Pottsville or Hazelton office.
If you’ve been trying to hide bulges beneath jackets, tunics, or Spanx (or all of these and more), the idea of liposuction may have entered your mind. Sometimes, it becomes too frustrating to try and disguise prominent flesh. This is the best time to explore the differences between liposuction and non-surgical fat-reducing procedures like Liposonix.
The fact of the matter is that both of these procedures exist because they have something to offer. What we want to help you determine is which one offers the most value for you.
Also known as liposculpture, the liposuction procedure emulsifies fat cells in a target area and then extracts them with gentle suction. The process of removal is aided by the anesthetic-containing tumescent fluid that is introduced to subcutaneous tissue before the liposuction procedure. Because fat cells are “treated” before extraction, the surgery can be performed through tiny incisions, reducing concerns related to scarring.
This non-surgical, non-invasive procedure is performed in the office without the need for sedation or anesthesia. Liposonix prompts the natural elimination of fat cells by targeting them with high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU). Clinical trials have demonstrated efficiency equating to inches lost after a single treatment.
Liposuction is one of the leading cosmetic surgery procedures and has been for a long time, due to advantages such as:
Liposonix is a popular non-surgical treatment for unwanted fat thanks to advantages such as:
Neither liposuction nor Liposonix is intended for weight loss. These procedures are categorized as body-contouring treatments, which means they are ideal for creating a better silhouette. With healthy lifestyle habits, the results from either treatment can last years.

When you think about having liposuction, what you are probably imagining the most is how great you will look after you get rid of those stubborn fat cells across your midsection (or your backside, or arms). We have conducted liposuction procedures on various areas of the body, and patients tend to be very satisfied with their results. The outcome regarding appearance is only one aspect of the process of body-sculpting through liposuction. There is also the matter of recovery, and that means we should talk about swelling.
Swelling isn’t necessarily a short-term side-effect.
You know how liposuction works. A tiny cannula is inserted into the area of unwanted fat. The cells are slightly disrupted with vibration or tumescent fluid and are then gently removed forever. The process is gentle enough, but there is a bit of trauma to the tissues of the surgical site. Nothing dramatic, but enough to mean healing is necessary.
Initially, swelling is noticeable. Fortunately, this swelling decreases progressively over several weeks. It is after this time when things may get unpredictable. Sometimes, patients notice that they appear more swollen on certain days. This could be because they have increased their activity. It could alternatively be because they are sedentary! We recommend walking short distances right after liposuction, and gradually increasing over time. If swelling occurs, you can elevate the part of the body that is retaining fluid to encourage excretion from those tissues.
Compression will help to swell; exercise may not.
It may seem unpleasant to have to wear a compression garment, but most patients appreciate the benefits once they do it. Compression stabilizes tissues so too much movement does not occur during the time when swelling and bruising are most significant.
It may also seem unpleasant to have to “sit around” while your body heals from liposuction. We say, go for a walk. As bruising and swelling subside, and your energy is restored, you can add to your physical activities. We support our patients through this transition, so they do not engage in too much too soon, ultimately inhibiting their recovery.

Liposuction banishes unwanted fat by literally removing stubborn fat cells for good. This procedure has evolved over the years, and patients of Keystone Cosmetic Surgery Center have multiple options for the technique used on their tenacious fat cells. Some of the common areas patients complain about included the abdomen, hips, buttocks, and even the back. While these are parts of the body that are commonly treated with liposuction, they aren’t the complete list. Here, we will look at some other areas that can be sculpted with liposuction.
In addition to body parts from the neck on down to the ankles, liposuction is also the method used to add masculine definition to the male chest. Men with gynecomastia used to have very few places to turn for help, but this is changing. Liposuction is an excellent treatment for this condition and can achieve permanent results.
From our offices in Pottsville and Hazleton, we serve patients from Lebanon, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Reading, and more. Contact us today to learn more about our body-sculpting treatments.
