Does Blepharoplasty Get Rid of Under-Eye Bags?

Woman with under-eye bags, blepharoplasty surgery, Hazleton, Pottsville, PAUnder-eye bags are a common cosmetic concern for many people, often making them look tired or older than they feel. These bags can be caused by various factors, including aging, genetics, lack of sleep, or fluid retention.

While lifestyle changes may provide temporary relief, eyelid surgery can offer a lasting solution.

What Is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) can remove excess skin, fat, and muscle from the eyelids. It can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, depending on the individual’s needs.

The procedure can improve the appearance of the eyes by reducing sagging and puffiness. It can also enhance vision if excess skin from the upper eyelids is obstructing sight.

How Does Blepharoplasty Address Under-Eye Bags?

Under-eye bags are typically caused by a combination of factors, including weakened muscles, skin laxity, and fat accumulation. Over time, the structures that support the eyelids weaken, and fat that is normally confined to the area around the eye can shift downward. This can create puffiness and the appearance of bags.

Lower blepharoplasty specifically targets this issue. During the procedure, Dr. Kimmel can remove or reposition the excess fat responsible for the puffiness.

In addition, he may tighten the skin and muscles around the lower eyelid, giving the area a smoother and more youthful appearance.

What to Expect From the Procedure

Lower blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia.

Dr. Kimmel makes small incisions either just below the lower lash line or inside the lower eyelid, ensuring minimal visible scarring. The procedure usually lasts one to two hours. Most patients can resume normal activities within 10 to 14 days.

Are the Results Permanent?

While blepharoplasty offers long-lasting results, the natural aging process will continue. However, the improvements made during surgery can last for many years.
