If You’re Thinking of Tucking, You Need to Know This

Tummy Tuck Hazleton, PAAbdominoplasty is a common body-contouring procedure that helps men and women reach goals that may otherwise elude them. Eating well and working out are integral to muscle tone and optimal weight, but there are factors in abdominal concerns that have nothing to do with what is eaten or how many crunches are performed. These factors can be corrected with a tummy tuck.

Nearly 130,000 tummy tucks were performed last year alone, demonstrating the effectiveness of this procedure and the ongoing success it achieves. Knowing that abdominoplasty is a popular pre-summer cosmetic procedure, we want to look at the after-effects of this surgery. Specifically, we want to discuss the matter of recovery.

Abdominoplasty: Here’s What Happens

During the average tummy tuck, an incision is made across the hip-line. Underlying abdominal tissue is repositioned and tightly secured so the abdominal surface flattens. If muscle separation has occurred, structures are reattached as needed. Excess skin is excised and the incision is closed. Muscles may have been loose before surgery but tightening them still leads to a bit of contraction that you need to be prepared for.

Recovery from abdominoplasty is not awful by any means. It does, however, limit you for about a week. To improve the road to recovery, we suggest:

  • Prepare for surgery with good lifestyle habits. Eating well and developing an exercise regimen pays off after abdominoplasty by optimizing bodily function, flexibility, and resiliency that contribute to efficient tissue regeneration and healing.
  • Get help. Maybe this should be tip Number One. Patients who are provided with the most assistance after abdominoplasty are those that experience the least amount of stress. It’s that simple. Look, your tummy is going to be tightafter surgery. Like need help out of bed, help to the bathroom, and help with basic care tight. Having a reliable and compassionate assistant during the week after surgery may be the best thing you can do for recovery.
  • Listen to your doctor. It’s safe to say that your doctor has a great deal more experience with abdominoplasty and surgical recovery than most people you know. Post-operative care instructions are a vital aspect of our treatment protocol. We highly suggest that you follow them to a T so your recovery goes as smoothly as possible. Some patients, when they start to feel more comfortable, overdo their activity to a point where their recovery takes steps backward. Don’t be that person. Listen to your doctor.
