Founded in 1931, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) is the largest plastic surgery specialty organization in the world. It is exclusively composed of plastic surgeons certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) who perform cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.
The mission of the ASPS is to ensure that quality care is provided to patients undergoing plastic surgery by encouraging high standards of training, ethics, physician practice and research among its membership. The ASPS additionally strongly advocates for patient safety by requiring its members to exclusively operate in state–licensed facilities, accredited by such national organizations as the Accreditation Association For Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) (see FAQ ‘What is AAAHC?’ for more information). This ensures that all surgeries performed by ASPS members are done in facilities adhering to the highest health care quality standards that have passed rigorous external review of equipment and staffing.
Only members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons may display the ASPS member logo. This symbol of excellence in plastic surgery is what you should look for when choosing a plastic surgeon:
