Dermabrasion is a procedure employed to enhance the skin surface by improving or eliminating contour irregularities. Performed on as outpatient basis, using a local anesthetic in combination with intravenous sedation,State Licensed, Nationally Accredited Ambulatory Surgical Facility, (see ‘about Keystone Surgery Center’) Dermabrasion involves the use of a power skin dermabrader or “sanding wheel” device to gently strip away excess unwanted skin cells, thereby improving deep or concentrated wrinkles, chronic acne scarring or skin surface irregularities resulting from prior injury. Dermabrasion is particularly useful for correcting contour irregularities in the area of the cheeks and around the mouth. Following this procedure, a “brush-burn” type of wound results, requiring topical wound care for about 5-7 days until surface healing occurs. What emerges following this healing process is an enhanced, smoother skin contour and more radiant complexion. This improvement in facial skin contour can, in turn, minimize the need for the use of camouflage cosmetics in women or the embarrassment resulting from chronic acne scarring, thereby enhancing confidence and self esteem.
