Cosmetic laser resurfacing, also known as “laser peel”, is a procedure that smoothes the facial skin by using a laser to treat damaged areas, shrink fine wrinkles and correct areas of uneven pigmentation. Laser resurfacing is performed by using a beam of laser energy to vaporize the upper layers of damaged skin with accurate precision. Men and women of all ages may benefit from this procedure for fine lines around the eyes, mouth and cheeks, scars from acne or trauma and uneven pigmentation or age spots. Laser resurfacing typically requires either general or intravenous sedation anesthesia and is followed by a 4-6 week period of “down time” necessary for healing to occur. What will then emerge is a smoother, tighter more youthful skin contour.
