Liposuction is not a new procedure. It’s been performed for decades with enormous success and is continually a leader in the pack of cosmetic procedures. Because we hear about liposuction so often, it’s easy to think we know the important details. From our standpoint, what many people believe about liposuction is off the mark.
Where it is easy to go wrong is in perceiving liposuction as a fat-reducing procedure. It is, in fact, a surgical technique that removes fat cells that are sticking around where they are not wanted. So, by very nature, liposuction is a fat-reducing procedure, right? And because of this, more people than you may imagine associate liposuction with weight reduction. This could lead to disappointment or, worse, to bypassing a body-sculpting procedure that could give you a body you love.
To know if liposuction is right for you, you need to know what this procedure is really for:
Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that we perform often and with success. To learn more about treatment options for better contours, call our Pottsville or Hazelton office.
Serving the men and women of areas in and around Philadelphia, Allentown, and several other communities bring us a great deal of joy. One of our top priorities is to meet expectations and preferences. To achieve this, we have selected some non-surgical anti-aging treatments to complement our cosmetic surgery services. One such treatment is the Triniti™ light and laser skin rejuvenation platform.
Triniti™ is a multidimensional treatment that utilizes three powerful modalities: radiofrequency, intense pulsed-light, and laser. By combining the three, it becomes possible to treat a wider range of concerns, including skin laxity, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation or sun damage.
During Treatment:
Triniti™ treatment is conducted in an office visit lasting approximately one hour. After cleansing the skin and applying topical gel to assist in the fluid movement of the handpiece, we begin treating discoloration and UV damage with the RF FotoFacial aspect of the process. Refirme skin tightening follows, reaching deeper beneath the surface to promote collagen reformation for firmer, younger-looking skin. Finally, Infrared fractional laser treatment is performed to continue the stimulation of collagen remodeling. Triniti™ treatment is not uncomfortable for most patients. Slight warmth and pinching or “zapping” may be experienced.
After Treatment:
One of the numerous beneficial aspects of Triniti™ is that the recovery period after each of the three necessary treatments is relatively uneventful. Normal activities can be resumed immediately, with an eye for sun protection. Broad spectrum sunscreen should be used every day, and tanning of any kind (tanning beds included) should be avoided for at least 4 weeks after the series of treatments have been completed. If the skin is exposed to ultraviolet light through sunshine or tanning lamps, there is a risk of permanent darkening. Furthermore, ultraviolet light breaks down collagen, so inevitably minimizes the long-term results from treatment.
Over the first several days after Triniti™ treatment, areas of darkened skin may appear. Minor peeling or flaking may also be noticed. These are both temporary and indicate the turnover of skin cells to reveal healthier, more youthful skin.

Cellulite is a huge problem for women, yet it is a condition that we don’t understand quite as well as we’d like. As many studies have been conducted on this cosmetic topic, findings provide minimal insight. The good news is that we are moving in the right direction when it comes to helping women overcome the problem of cellulite. Some of the details that have been extracted from the research include:
Women in the Allentown, Harrisburg, and Philadelphia areas (to name a few) can find help with cellulite at Keystone Surgery Centers in Pottsville and Hazleton. Velashape multi-dimensional treatment deep-heats fat cells and connective tissue while also stimulating collagen and elastin production with gentle suction. Clinical studies indicate this precise combination of vacuum, radio frequency, and infrared light can significantly improve the texture and structure of the skin.

We’ve been living through quite a time of evolution that has touched every corner of the beauty industry. Women today are not using the Pond’s cold cream their mothers used; they are coating their skin with all sorts of substances, from retinoid creams to snail mucin. Aging is a rather simple problem these days, no doubt. However, the plethora of non-surgical treatments should not be taken as an indication that surgical lifting is outdated.
When it comes to wrinkle reduction and facial “lifting,” most people lean toward the power of injectables. Botox and other neuromodulators are, in fact, really good at smoothing out the upper face, and may even be appropriate for lifting the brow that has dropped. Soft tissue fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane may be used for everything from under eye bags to marionette lines to nose reshaping. We offer all of these treatments and more. They work. But not always.
Here’s why injectables shouldn’t always be viewed as an alternative to a surgical lift:
To layer filler over filler over filler, even though these products get absorbed over time, can lead to an obviously filled look. We’ve seen this play out time and time again in recent history. Actress Courtney Cox is a prime example of overdoing it, and is now outspoken about her A Ha moment and subsequent dissolution of dermal fillers. The whole point of anti-aging is to do so as naturally as possible. Sometimes, a subtle surgical lift and fat transfer is the best way to maintain natural, youthful beauty.
One of the primary reasons that injectables are popular among adults of all ages (and stages of aging) is that each treatment is affordable. Of course, we cannot argue that, for many people, it is more appealing to pay outright for a rejuvenating treatment than to finance a surgical facelift. However, it is important to look at how often those treatments are being performed. Sometimes, the most cost-effective approach is to tighten and lift the skin with surgery, and to restore fullness with fat injections.
Fall is a great time for facial rejuvenation because we are right in between social seasons. Learn more about facelift or brow lift surgery, eyelid surgery, and injectables when you call our Hazleton or Pottsville office.
It is true that there are good cosmetic surgeons all around the world, not only in the United States. However, the idea of traveling out of the country for a more affordable cosmetic procedure is one to approach with a great deal of discernment. Medical tourism is not new; entire organizations revolve around helping patients find the services they want at the price that they like. Even if you hear wonderful feedback from someone who’s done it, this type of travel could cost you far more than you imagined.
Vetting a plastic surgeon is easy when you stay close to home. Not only can you meet your surgeon face to face (screen time doesn’t count) well before a surgical procedure, but you also have the option of more extensive research such as background checking credentials and speaking with patients of your chosen surgeon.
And this . . .
Getting a cosmetic procedure for a lower cost and getting a little vacation to can sound very appealing. Why wouldn’t you want to do this? Let’s see.
Surgical procedures are never without risk. For that reason, patients who are considering traveling abroad for cosmetic treatment may spend months looking for the “right” surgeon, and their selection may be based on unreliable information from a website or brochure.
What you want from cosmetic surgery is a good outcome, not a good deal. If you would like to know more about our services and prices, contact our Hazleton or Pottsville office for friendly assistance.
Women have been interested in breast augmentation for many years. The more that the procedure has been refined, the greater interest we have seen. Today, breast augmentation is one of the most frequently performed cosmetic surgery procedures worldwide. Although this surgery is common, or perhaps because it is so common, there is a bit of misinformation to be found. It’s an important bit of misinformation though, because it may be standing in your way of getting the shape you would like.
If you have done any amount of internet research on silicone breast implants or talked with friends about your consideration of this procedure for yourself, you may have come across a statement that breast implants have to be replaced every 10 years. Yikes! If you are in your twenties, that is a lot of upkeep to manage over your lifetime!
As much as this sounds like a yes or no question, it’s not. The answer is, some women may need some breast implant revision after 10 years, and some will not. The idea that silicone implants, across the board, in every patient, need to be replaced routinely, is a gross exaggeration of outdated statistics. Let’s look at where this idea came from.
In 2011, a report was released from an FDA study of silicone breast implants. Of the women in the study, 1 out of 5 did need to have her silicone implants replaced after around 10 years, due to scarring, rupture, or another issue. 1 in 5 accounted for only 20% of patients in the study. That means 80% of women with silicone implants had no issues and no need for revision surgery. That is just one point.
Another point that should be mentioned is that we must take a look at the date on that study to fully discern its validity. A lot has changed in the world of breast augmentation since 2011. No form-stable implants such as “gummy bear” implants were included in that study because they didn’t exist at the time. Now they do, and they are becoming the new norm in breast augmentation surgery.

Your age is something that you may want to hold close to your chest. Only those whom you know and trust may be privy to certain bits of information such as this. The widespread use of non-surgical and minimally invasive facial rejuvenating treatments allows men and women the opportunity to take their pace with the aging process, and to feel more confident in their appearance as time goes by. If you are part of this group of individuals, you may be unpleasantly surprised if you notice that your efforts are being thwarted by another area of your body.
We all know that the face is not the only part of the body that shows signs of aging. Some of the places that are easily overlooked include the:
Age is not a facial concern only. Keep your age to yourself, if you so wish, by also rejuvenating nearby features with custom care from the team at Keystone Cosmetic Surgery in Pottsville and Hazleton.
Cosmetic plastic surgery is a field of medicine that has largely served the needs of women who desire to feel more confident in their appearance. It isn’t so much that men have been left out of trends in aesthetic medicine; more like they didn’t quite have the freedom to talk about their concerns and desires related to appearance. Just over the past few decades, this is something that is changing. The number of men obtaining some type of cosmetic treatment has increased over 300%. This demonstrates an incredible turn toward openness, and also improvements in treatment options tailored to men’s needs.
Men don’t necessarily want to just be slim. Many of the men we meet express frustration in the results they have obtained with diet and exercise. A common problem that has become a hot topic of discussion of late is gynecomastia – man boobs, as it is often referred to. According to statistics, the number of men treated for gynecomastia in 2015 equated to almost half of all breast reduction procedures that year. The procedure continues to increase in popularity as men realize they do not have to live in a body that does not reflect their masculinity.
To be slim and sculpted does not center only on having the appropriate curvature across the chest. Men of all ages whose bodies are not responding as they would like to healthy habits are choosing to refine their contours with liposuction. This targeted fat-removing procedure is often performed on the abdomen and love handles, but may also be used elsewhere for shedding the uppermost layer of fat that is hiding muscles.
One of the most common procedures sought by men in recent years has nothing to do with body contouring and everything to do with the jaw line. Both age and genetics play a part in the development of the jaw line. Men who would like to restore that chiseled, angular appearance may do so by removing loose skin and fatty deposits from the neck. Neck lift surgery in combination with chin liposuction can do this quickly and with little downtime.

As we add more candles to our birthday cake, we add many happy memories to our life. Our accomplishments become many, as do our gray hairs and wrinkles. While most of us would say we wouldn’t trade our life experience for a thing, many express a desire to do away with some of the physical changes ushered in by time. Often, it is problems like crow’s feet and drooping brows that get all the attention. At Keystone Cosmetic Surgery Center, we understand that aging has widespread effects. Here, we want to discuss what happens along the jaw line and what you can do about it.
It seems as though the sagging sacks of tissue that droop from the sides of the face are a primary problem. When they become obvious, an obsession with erasing them may develop. But we cannot focus on the problem without looking a little farther out. Jowls do not just form over time; they are the result of a problem higher on the face.
From our twenties onward, most of us start losing collagen. This is because the body doesn’t produce as much as it once did, and existing strands of this protein become tired and weak from holding up the skin. UV damage, stress, smoking, alcohol, and several other factors also work against poor collagen as it tries to keep skin firm and supple. By the time we reach our forties or fifties, the lack of support across the cheeks has led to “falling,” and this means jowls.
We could sit around and bemoan our bad luck (or bad genes), or we can move onward and upward. To reduce the appearance of jowls, we focus on restoring the support given to connective tissue and skin in the mid-face area. This may involve:

Have you recently restored youthful beauty to your face with a surgical lift? Is this procedure in your future? In either situation, you have an important task ahead of you. That task is supporting your newly lifted and tightened skin. A facelift can take you back in time, aesthetically speaking, up to 15 years, but aging is not an unstoppable process. What you do after a facelift, though, can lengthen the lifespan of your results. We want to point out just how easy this can be . . .
Reputable cosmetic surgeons are performing more facelifts than in previous years due to the extended life expectancy of the current Baby Boomer population. If you’ve been trying to hide bulges beneath jackets, tunics, or Spanx (or all of these and more), the idea of liposuction may have entered your mind. Sometimes, it becomes too frustrating to try and disguise prominent flesh. This is the best time to explore the differences between liposuction and non-surgical fat-reducing procedures like Liposonix.
The fact of the matter is that both of these procedures exist because they have something to offer. What we want to help you determine is which one offers the most value for you.
Also known as liposculpture, the liposuction procedure emulsifies fat cells in a target area and then extracts them with gentle suction. The process of removal is aided by the anesthetic-containing tumescent fluid that is introduced to subcutaneous tissue before the liposuction procedure. Because fat cells are “treated” before extraction, the surgery can be performed through tiny incisions, reducing concerns related to scarring.
This non-surgical, non-invasive procedure is performed in the office without the need for sedation or anesthesia. Liposonix prompts the natural elimination of fat cells by targeting them with high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU). Clinical trials have demonstrated efficiency equating to inches lost after a single treatment.
Liposuction is one of the leading cosmetic surgery procedures and has been for a long time, due to advantages such as:
Liposonix is a popular non-surgical treatment for unwanted fat thanks to advantages such as:
Neither liposuction nor Liposonix is intended for weight loss. These procedures are categorized as body-contouring treatments, which means they are ideal for creating a better silhouette. With healthy lifestyle habits, the results from either treatment can last years.
Would you like to compare liposuction to Liposonix? Schedule a consultation in our Pottsville or Hazleton office to get the full details on our various techniques.
Age provides us with better knowledge of ourselves and others. It gives us the opportunity to look back on happy memories and accomplishments. It also means we have had more time to recognize a few adversaries. Interestingly enough, age is the enemy when it comes to unwelcome changes in appearance. Loose skin, sagging eyebrows, and a disappearing jawline are all effects of the aging process that we cannot run from. That being said, we can manage them. The only question is “how?”
Many of the men and women who seek treatment for cosmetic concerns express an interest in dermal fillers. It’s true that these natural or synthetic products can do a lot of good for aging skin. And if you are new to the anti-aging game, natural fillers based on hyaluronic acid may be optimal. You get to see how filler products can work without making a long-term commitment to the outcome of care. Even synthetic fillers are only temporary, though they can last months longer than natural fillers.
Patients who have relied on injectables for some time may be ready for something more permanent, and they can get it. More than getting the outcome they want, they get it in a safe, efficient manner: fat injections. Fat has made a grand entrance on the aesthetic scene in recent years. Cells that are unwanted in one part of the body really can be extracted and used someplace else. Genius! Jokes have been made about this process for years, and now we see it in action in a very good way.
Fat injection treatments number over 500,000 yearly. The process involves fat extraction through a gentle liposuction procedure, usually requiring only local anesthetic and mild sedation. The cells that are captured are purified in a centrifuge before they are introduced into a part of the face that is in need of volume. This could be the cheeks, the temples, the lips, or lines and wrinkles.

There are no procedures at this time that outnumber those that enhance the appearance of the breasts. When you think of this, the procedure that may first come to mind is breast augmentation. Yes, there are benefits to enlargement with breast implants. Any woman who has had this procedure will tell you what they are. But there is another breast procedure that also deserves some air time: breast reduction.
Just as there are general benefits to making any part of the body more attractive and shapely, there are also unique benefits to various procedures. Breast reduction is no exception. Women who undergo this method of body-contouring are treated to . . .
The confidence a woman gains after breast reduction is not newly developed, it was always inside of her. The smaller size of her breasts just lets her confidence shine. Here’s one way this can happen: the size of the breasts no longer overshadows every other aspect of physical appearance or character traits. A woman with large breasts often feels as though she has to grin and bear it as another sneers at, stares at, or jokes about her physique. Removing this obstacle (over which she had no control) empowers a woman to be known for who she really is, not for her shape. Now that’s confidence!
Ok, so breast reduction probably won’t lead a woman to entirely change the way she dresses – at least not as it pertains to the price of her clothing. Some women do actually change their entire style. This isn’t because her preference has changed, though; it’s because her body can now fit into the types of clothing she always wanted to wear. Tank tops and bikinis may no longer feel intimidating and may actually be appealing and comfortable.
Having large breasts does not make a woman unhealthy. What may inhibit optimal well-being is the lack of motivation a large-breasted woman has regarding physical fitness. Whether there might be an interest in yoga, weight training, or aerobics, the discomfort of hard-to-support breasts may be a huge obstacle – an obstacle overcome for good with breast reduction.
If you are near Pottsville or Hazleton, we invite you to schedule a consultation with cosmetic surgeon Dr. Kimmel to discuss what is possible for you.
When you think about having liposuction, what you are probably imagining the most is how great you will look after you get rid of those stubborn fat cells across your midsection (or your backside, or arms). We have conducted liposuction procedures on various areas of the body, and patients tend to be very satisfied with their results. The outcome regarding appearance is only one aspect of the process of body-sculpting through liposuction. There is also the matter of recovery, and that means we should talk about swelling.
Swelling isn’t necessarily a short-term side-effect.
You know how liposuction works. A tiny cannula is inserted into the area of unwanted fat. The cells are slightly disrupted with vibration or tumescent fluid and are then gently removed forever. The process is gentle enough, but there is a bit of trauma to the tissues of the surgical site. Nothing dramatic, but enough to mean healing is necessary.
Initially, swelling is noticeable. Fortunately, this swelling decreases progressively over several weeks. It is after this time when things may get unpredictable. Sometimes, patients notice that they appear more swollen on certain days. This could be because they have increased their activity. It could alternatively be because they are sedentary! We recommend walking short distances right after liposuction, and gradually increasing over time. If swelling occurs, you can elevate the part of the body that is retaining fluid to encourage excretion from those tissues.
Compression will help to swell; exercise may not.
It may seem unpleasant to have to wear a compression garment, but most patients appreciate the benefits once they do it. Compression stabilizes tissues so too much movement does not occur during the time when swelling and bruising are most significant.
It may also seem unpleasant to have to “sit around” while your body heals from liposuction. We say, go for a walk. As bruising and swelling subside, and your energy is restored, you can add to your physical activities. We support our patients through this transition, so they do not engage in too much too soon, ultimately inhibiting their recovery.
We have offices in Hazleton and Pottsville, where we are happy to meet you to discuss your aesthetic goals. Contact us for your consultation.
Liposuction banishes unwanted fat by literally removing stubborn fat cells for good. This procedure has evolved over the years, and patients of Keystone Cosmetic Surgery Center have multiple options for the technique used on their tenacious fat cells. Some of the common areas patients complain about included the abdomen, hips, buttocks, and even the back. While these are parts of the body that are commonly treated with liposuction, they aren’t the complete list. Here, we will look at some other areas that can be sculpted with liposuction.
In addition to body parts from the neck on down to the ankles, liposuction is also the method used to add masculine definition to the male chest. Men with gynecomastia used to have very few places to turn for help, but this is changing. Liposuction is an excellent treatment for this condition and can achieve permanent results.
From our offices in Pottsville and Hazleton, we serve patients from Lebanon, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Reading, and more. Contact us today to learn more about our body-sculpting treatments.
